Our Lands of the Senses I Episode 5: Rosemary, Tunisia
Jean GAZIGNAIRE – Groupe MUL has chosen to offer a Rosemary Essential Oil, based on complete traceability, strict compliance with the regulatory framework and sustainable working conditions for all actors in the supply chain.
An emblematic plant of the Mediterranean landscape, Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) grows in the scrubland, in arid and rocky areas of northwestern Tunisia. It is harvested from the beginning of May to the end of June/beginning of July.
It is the result of an unauthorised collection carried out exclusively in areas allocated each year by the Tunisian government, via a system of tenders. Each picking area is managed by a manager with a team of twenty people. The harvest is carried out early in the morning, before the onset of the high temperatures.
Since 2025, a distillation site has been built in the Jendouba region. The latter allows for complete traceability from the collection areas to the manufacture of the essential oil. In this way, we can control the risks associated with fire management and improve working conditions in the sector. All products and co-products are valued locally, allowing for a short and virtuous supply chain.
Known for its finer olfactory profile and antioxidant properties, rosemary from Tunisia stands out in applications in the Perfumery & Cosmetics sector, unlike other origins, where rosemary is quickly dried for food use.
